“…In an attempt to elucidate the incidence of metastasis from laryngeal carcinoma a review of the world literature reveals a wide range of figures. Clinical studies differ greatly from post-mortem studies in that the incidence in the former vary between 1.3 and4.1 percent (Fabbi, 1952;Pietrantoni and Fior, 1958) and in the latter between 16 and 88 per cent (Braud and Martin, 1941;Mumma and Chusid, 1961;Harrer and Lewis, 1970;Abramson et al, 1971;O'Brien et al, 1971). This vast difference may be explained by patients suffering with advanced laryngeal tumours and treatmentresistant tumours being included in the post-mortem studies.…”
