Distribution patterns of rDNAs and telomeres and chromosomal rearrangement between two cytotypes ofLysimachia mauritianaL. (Primulaceae)

Abstract: -Two cytotypes of Lysimachia mauritiana collected from Japanese mainland (JM-type) and the Sakishima group (SR-type), located in the southernmost of the Ryukyu Archipelago of Japan, were cytogenetically analyzed. JM-and SR-types showed karyotype formulae of 2n=20(4m)=4m+2sm+4st+10t and 2n=18(6m)=6m+2sm+10t, respectively. In FISH analysis, a signal of 5S rDNA was observed at the interstitial region of long arm on a pair of t-chromosome in both cytotypes. On the other hand, different sizes of 45S rDNA signals we… Show more

“…3b2). Transcriptional activity or inactivity related to the size of the 45S site, major/minor, was reported in oat and Lysimachia mauritiana L. (Winterfeld and Röser, 2007;Kono et al, 2011). In L. perenne, FISH signals in comparison to Ag-NOR banding in the same metaphase showed strong specific silver-stained signals colocated with breakage or gaps in decondensed rDNA sites.…”

“…One Table 3. Transcriptional activity or inactivity related to the size of the 45S site, major/minor, was reported in oat and Lysimachia mauritiana L. (Winterfeld and Röser, 2007;Kono et al, 2011). possible explanation is that the absence or silencing of ribosomal genes by epigenetic mechanisms was triggered by the expression of fragile sites.…”

“…The karyotypic formula of the 20 (4m) cytotype (2n=20= 4m+4sm+2st+10t) was clearly distinguishable from those of other 20 (4m) cytotypes detected in Japan, i.e. JM-type (2n=20= 4m+2sm+4st+10t), MR-type (2n=20= 4m+2sm+2st+12t) and HD-type (2n=20= 4m+2sm+14t) (Kono et al 2008(Kono et al , 2010(Kono et al , 2011(Kono et al , 2013(Kono et al , 2015, and was similar to that of 20 (4m) TS cytotype grown widely in southern Taiwan including two offshore islands, the Philippines, Maui in the Hawaiian Islands and Rota of the Northern Mariana Islands (Kono et al 2012). Thus, the present study is the first report to reveal that 20 (4m) TS cytotype has also grown in Japan.…”

“…The 20 (4m) cytotype distributed only in OK-1 and -36 was a cytotype specific to the area and had never been found in other places before. Its karyotypic formula (2n=20= 4m+2sm+14t) clearly differed from those of 20 (4m) JM-type (2n=20= 4m+2sm+4st+10t) and 20 (4m) MR-type (2n=20= 4m+2sm+2st+12t) previously reported (Kono et al 2011(Kono et al , 2015. Thus we designated it as 20 (4m) HD-type (Hedo cape-type).…”
