Abstract:Novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has impacted the world severely causing millions of positive cases and thousands of fatality cases. Admission of a large number of infected patients in the hospitals is creating daily challenges for medical experts and researchers, such as limited numbers of isolation rooms, less amount of personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining the hygiene in the hospitals, handling of many clinical samples for tests at the laborites, etc. This disease is mild in most people, b… Show more
“…As of January 2021, a typical COVID-19 diagnosis relies on genomic detection of SARS-CoV-2 from the respiratory tract samples such as nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs and/or an oropharyngeal (OP) swabs collected of suspected individuals. 84 , 85 The collected sample is placed into a viral transportation medium and is transported to nearby clinical laboratories for analysis. 86 , 87 Molecular diagnostic analysis based on nucleic acid amplification such as RT-PCR is performed to detect the pathogen in the collected sample.…”

“…In the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the causative pathogen SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has been widely detected using RT-PCR and qRT-PCR worldwide. 12–15 The technique is used to quantify the viral load in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with very good specificity and sensitivity. Globally, 104 PCR kits are in use to detect this pathogen in hospitals, medical centres, university campuses and airports.…”

Recent developments of point-of-care (POC) diagnostic devices available for detecting pathogens to monitor infectious diseases that have made a massive impact in modern health care systems.
“… 54 , 55 Hence, early diagnosis is important to isolate patients quickly from healthy people. 56 Researchers are focusing on more POC-based diagnostic processes to detect the virus at earliest. The gold standards for detection SARS-CoV-2 is reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
