Diversion proctocolitis and the problem of the forgotten rectum in inflammatory bowel diseases: A systematic review

Abstract: Background and aims: Diversion proctocolitis (DP) is a non-specific mucosal inflammation arising in the defunctionalized colon and/or rectum following faecal diversion (colostomy, ileostomy). Differential diagnosis of DP from the underlying disease in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) is often unclear. As a result, it might be difficult to undertake any specific treatment. We aimed to systematically review the literature evidence on DP in IBD patients. Methods: For this qualitative systematic revi… Show more

“…The leading advantage of that position is the liberty in executing tasks including selection of SoMe platforms, content presentation, development of new SoMe activities, and frequency of posting. It may sound seemingly obvious, but during the work as SoMe editor, the liberty appears the mainstay of unlimited creativity, including co‐work with a graphic designer on visual abstracts, even journal website appearance improving 8–11 . In UEG Journal, the social media editor closely co‐operates with Editor‐in‐Chief of UEG Journal and the whole UEG crew, working in very flexible time slots, following the SoMe editor's beat.…”

[8][9][10][11] In UEG Journal, the social media editor closely co-operates with Editor-in-Chief of UEG Journal and the whole UEG crew, working in very flexible time slots, following the SoMe editor's beat. In addition, this editor may work at various fronts, as an individual, but also as a team player to empower projects of UEG Journal like podcasts recording, and share them with the rest of the trainee editors under the UEG Journal board guidance.…”

“…We have been privileged to publish excellent investigator-initiated studies with important clues for clinical practice, 3 research from national groups 4 and/or national database analysis using artificial intelligence, meta-analysis and systematic reviews. [5][6][7] We welcome with particular interest the young generation of gastroenterologists who perform translational science in different domains such as biomarkers, outcome modifying strategies, new diagnostic tools (point-of-care), or studies that explore alternative treatment approaches. 8 Moreover, we challenge top leaders in each field to submit relevant reviews exploring the hot topics.…”

“…3 Although dyspepsia may be managed without endoscopy in primary care patients without alarm symptoms or risk factors, the presence of H. pylori needs to assessed and eradicated if positive 1 (Figure 1). Guidance for the 13 C-urea (UBT) and gastric emptying breath tests (GEBT) is also provided by the European guideline on the use of 13 C-breath tests from the European Association for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Nutrition, ESNM and European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition, among many other tests. 4 In this Delphi consensus with 43 experts from 18…”

“…A reflection of this is the increasing followers' number of the UEG Journal Twitter account, reaching almost 6000 over barely 3 years. In 2021, we put emphasis on visual graphic content presentation in SoMe, as a distinction for 29 manuscripts published in UEG journal, covering the various GI fields including inflammatory bowel diseases, 12,13 endoscopy, 14 pancreas, 15,16 obesity, 17 gut, 18 GI tract physiology, 19 and the European guidelines. 1,2 We believe that an eye-friendly summary presentation form of published papers will beef up the UEG Journal overview and amplify the authors' effort.…”
