“…The results indicate that the prognosis of acute diverticulitis is favorable. Conservative treatment during the acute phase is adequate and an attack of acute di verticulitis as such should not be considered as an indication for elective resection, as has been suggested [Babington, 1948;Welch et al, 1953;Greene, 1957;Buck, 1958], Elec tive resection is considered by expert sur geons perfectly safe after the acute phase of diverticulitis is over [Edwards, 1954], and obviously the success of the operation de pends to a large extent on the experience of the operating surgeon.
