The interest in Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) has grown at a good pace during last few years. This technique provides a detailed description of progress in vibrational optical activity for determining structural properties of pharmaceuticals. Now highly advanced VCD spectrometers are available which implement the dual polarization modulation method. This article focuses on instrumental methods, unique applicabilities and capabilities, review of scientific applications such as enantiomeric purity and absolute configuration, solution conformations, pharmaceuticals, and natural products and concludes with an assessment of the instrumentation's utility, when metal ions play significant roles in biological and medicinal processes. The study finds that same metal ions significantly affect large molecular biological complexes that arise from the interactions of DNA, proteins, and medicinal drugs.
