Do Not Be Anticlimactic: Farmers’ Behavior in the Sustainable Application of Green Agricultural Technology—A Perceived Value and Government Support Perspective

Abstract: The production mode of “high input, high yield and high waste” in the agricultural system poses a serious threat to the environment and the quality of agricultural products. Accelerating the adoption of green agricultural technology (GAT) by farmers is an emergency measure. However, according to microsurvey data, many farmers give up GAT within a year after adopting it. The implementation of this measure has been anticlimactic. Based on a survey of 1138 kiwi growers in Shaanxi Province, China, this paper build… Show more

“…It can be observed in the results that the regression coefficient of TFP measured by LP method is significantly positive for farmers' income and significantly negative for urban-rural income gap. Also, these empirical results are consistent with the results of Zhang and Wu (2023). It can be seen that hypothesis 3 in this paper is valid.…”

“…Extensive research has been conducted on the correlation between agricultural-technology extension and farmers' adoptive behavior. Existing studies suggest that agricultural-technology extension, employing strategies such as demonstration, lectures, training programs, and technical subsidies [34,59,60], not only enhances farmers' agricultural production capacity [61] but also boosts their informationacquisition capabilities [32,62], cognitive levels, and risk tolerance [63,64]. Consequently, it contributes to the adoption of new technologies by farmers [65].…”

“…Joining a cooperative had a positive impact on the selection of fertilizer-reduction and efficiency-increasing technologies at the 1% significance level. Farmers who are members of cooperatives possess ample social capital [61]. This organizational structure not only enhances farmers' negotiation abilities and reduces production costs but also widens their information sources, mitigating information asymmetry.…”

“…Regarding the demonstration-led effect, first, ASS help farmers master advanced agricultural production technology and management methods by providing professional agricultural technology, agricultural machinery, agricultural information 30 , etc. This helps enhance the production efficiency and technical level of farmers, and reduces the purchase of agricultural machinery and cost of pest control, and thus, reduces pesticide inputs 31 .…”
