Abstract:Oxytocin, a polypeptide containing nine amino acids, is produced in the paraventricular and the supraoptical nuclei of the hypothalamus. Oxytocin is secreted into the circulation to produce hormonal effects such as stimulation of milk ejection and uterine contractions.
