Does ADMA effect the oxidant/antioxidant balance in rats?

Abstract: Synthesis of some novel 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxy)benzoyl-3-arylthiourea derivatives (1a-o) was accomplished in 2 steps. The synthetic route involves the reaction of 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxy)benzoyl chloride with potassium thiocyanate in 1:1 molar ratio in acetone to afford the corresponding isothiocyante followed by treatment with suitably substituted anilines. The structures of the products were established by elemental analyses, IR, 1 H-and 13 C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy and for 1b and 1m from single crystal X-ray di… Show more

“…ADMA administered to the rats in our study may have caused a reduction in DDAH activity and consequently there may have been excessive amounts of ADMA in the liver. This possibility is not unlikely when the oxidative stress-increasing effect of ADMA is considered (Alaçam et al, 2013). However, antioxidant ascorbic acid administered to the rats did not provide sufficient recovery of either biochemical or histopathological parameters.…”

“…Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is produced by methylation of arginine residues of the intracellular proteins (11,12). ADMA is an endogenous nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor that contributes to cardiovascular disease pathogenesis related to endothelial dysfunctions such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, and chronic renal disease (13,14).…”
