“…Communication serves a crucial role in individual behavioral change (Arikan et al ., 2022; Brosch, 2021; Vulturius et al ., 2020). Accordingly, communication campaigns based on the latest research are crucial for informing the general public, engaging with them, raising awareness and ultimately working toward organizational and societal changes that support sustainability (Bayes et al ., 2023; Dash and Dash, 2021; Degeling and Koolen, 2022; Maibach et al ., 2023).…”

“…Interviewees repeatedly expressed concern that because less active forest management than they would like to see was occurring on family forest land that very few family forest owners are adapting to climate change. This varied by region, however, as interviewees noted that many western family forest owners are more aware that immediate climate-induced hazards such as wildfire require active management than eastern landowners not facing acute events; this is similarly reflected in research in Sweden where extreme events push people to intend to take action to adapt (irrespective of their belief in climate change) (Vulturius et al, 2020). There are still challenges to implementing climate adaptive practices in much of the West that prevent more family forest owners from being active managers.…”
