In examining the influence of a firm's structure and culture on innovativeness among housing developers in Malaysia, we draw a theoretical perspective to develop hypotheses, that propose the structure and culture of the firm as organizational factors which influence innovativeness. We, therefore, examine the direct relationship between independent variables (firm structure and culture) and the dependent variable (firm innovativeness). While previous empirical studies discover that certain organizational factors such as structure, size and culture influence innovativeness, the findings are however proven to be inconsistent. We used the proportionate stratified random sampling to collect data from the micro, small, large and publiclisted housing developers in Peninsular Malaysia. We received 183 valid questionnaires out of 504 questionnaires distributed, yielding 36.3% response rate. All the two dimensions of the culture examined in this study (adhocracy culture and market orientation) are found to have a positive relationship and strong influence on the firm's innovativeness. Although the relationship between firm structure and innovativeness is positive, formalization and centralization have no strong influence on innovativeness among housing developers in Malaysia. The findings from this study suggest that to enhance the innovativeness in the Malaysian housing industry, managers and chief executives need to consider cultural dimensions such as adhocracy culture and market orientations seriously. It is hoped that our findings complement the existing body of knowledge and contribute to future studies which concern innovativeness.

Purpose:The study aims to examine the relationship between organizational innovativeness and firm performance, considering the culture of innovation as a potential moderator of this relationship. The present work provides important managerial insights into drivers of firm performance. Design/Methodology/Approach: A survey was conducted across 121 random manufacturing businesses in Poland. A regression analysis series was used to assess the relationships between organizational innovation, an innovation culture, and a firm's performance. Findings: Organizational innovativeness and innovation culture both have a substantial and positive impact on firm performance. The innovation culture played a moderating role in the relationship between innovativeness and firm performance in both high-and low-innovation cultures and across all dimensions of innovation. The moderation itself was the strongest in strategic innovativeness, whereas the market innovativeness model produced the most significant variance attributable to the moderator. Practical Implications: The study speaks to the need to consider organizational innovativeness and drivers of the innovation culture when striving for good firm performancea notion important for management practice. Originality/Value: The literature provides ample evidence to substantiate the thesis that innovation positively impacts a firm's performance, though findings vary substantially across studies. Furthermore, a paucity of studies would model and empirically verify the relationship between organizational innovativeness and firm performance among industrial businesses operating in Central-Eastern Europe. There is also little research demonstrating the role of the innovation culture in moderating this relationship. This research makes an essential contribution to the existing literature by empirically examining the relationship between organizational innovativeness, innovation culture, and firm performance.

The Organizational Culture of a Major Social Work Institution in Romania: A Sociological Analysis

This study aims to document the specific organizational culture existing in the General Directorate for Social Work and Child Protection (DGASPC) in the Gorj county, Romania. This is a major social work institution in Romania, but one which (like most other social work institutions in this country) have rarely been subject to the type of sociological research as the one reported in this article. The present analysis can help leaders in this organization and other similar organizations to assess and improve the cultural aspects that can influence the achievement of objectives, as well as the quality of the social services provided to service users. Our study has included 286 participants that hold various positions at DGASPC Gorj (social workers, psychologists, and educators). The chosen investigative instrument is the organizational culture assessment instrument (OCAI), a questionnaire designed to interpret organizational phenomena, developed by Cameron and Quinn and based on the conceptual framework of the “competing values framework”. The authors have identified four types of culture (clan, adhocracy, hierarchy, and market culture) and the tool allows an analysis of organizational culture based on the employees’ perception of the existing culture as well as also on their preferences regarding the way they would like to change the organizational culture in the future. The results show that the dominant culture is the hierarchy culture, closely followed by elements of clan culture. Other cultural dimensions are also explored and reported (leadership, success criteria, etc.).
