“…Since the NAM structure and pro-environmental behaviour relationship was not supported in the study, the present findings may challenge the generality of the assumption that the NAM theory predicts sustainable transport mode choices. The findings also align with a recent study which suggested that the NAM components may not predict mode choice behaviour in China (Nordfjaern & Zavareh, 2017).…”

“…A plausible speculation for why the NAM chain was not associated with behaviour is that situational constraints, spatial and built environment factors may be more important precursors of mode use than normative processes (Nordfjaern and Zavareh, 2017). We cannot rule out the NAM as a predictor of other environmental behaviours in Iran, but transportation mode use is subject to a wide range of situational and spatial constraints that may render it difficult to attend to normative factors when choosing/using a mode.…”

“…A potential reason is that environmental worldview has stronger hedonic implications (e.g. requires increased effort and a somewhat reduced individual comfort for the benefit of the collective) (Nordfjaern and Fallah Zavareh, 2017). This suggestion could be taken into account in future studies of environmental behaviour in Iran.…”

“…Research on pro-environmental behavior receives ever-increasing interest from researchers worldwide and has led to a vast body of research of predictive models of pro-environmental behavior. The research ranges from models designed specifically for investigating pro-environmental behaviors, such as the Value-Belief-Norm theory [6][7][8][9][10], the Value-Identity-Personal norm model [11,12] (to name a few), and the use of general models of explaining behavior such as the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) [6,13,14]. The knowledge gained through research thus far has focused on how the aforementioned models function in general and their general utility in explaining behavior.…”
