“…The quality of a decision substantially depends on a decision unit"s levels of expertise (Malhotra et al, 2007). However, an evaluation of the expertise of a decision unit requires knowledge of the structure of the decision unit.…”

“…These tools are commonly referred to as planning/decision support systems and are therefore synonymous with the decision method concept in this paper (Geertman and Stillwell, 2010). The second group examines the impact of a specific component (other than a decision method) of a decision-making process (e.g., size of participation, data quality, visualization quality, quality of the decision-makers, decision-making duration) and its effect on the decision-making quality (Borchers, 2005;Carmeli and Schaubroeck, 2006;Fiedler and Kareev, 2006; see for instance, Ganster et al, 1991;Lipshitz and Barak, 1995;Malhotra et al, 2007;Raghunathan, 1999;Schulte and Peter Gr眉ner, 2007). All of these components, including the decision support tools, represent only a portion of the decision-making process, and therefore, a more comprehensive analysis is required to evaluate the quality of a decision process.…”

“…In literature, research has examined various factors influencing decision quality, including information quality (Raghunathan 1999;Gao et al 2012), information quantity (Gao et al 2012), thought mode (Gao et al 2012), the quality of a decision maker (Raghunathan 1999;Malhotra et al 2007), and time pressure (Kocher and Sutter 2006). In view of the impact of information technology on firm performance, Raghunathan presented that simultaneous improvement in the quality of information and a decision maker resulted in the upgrade of decision quality using theoretical and simulation models.…”

“…Dreyfus & Dreyfus (2005) hold the view that an expert ought to be able to make decisions intuitively as opposed to a novice. However, the assumption that experts make superior or better decisions than novices was refuted by a study on decision making among petroleum engineers (Malhotraa, Leeb, & Khuranaa, 2007). Other researchers such as Kahneman & Klein (2009) found that using intuitive judgement could substantially lead to incorrect judgement despite vast experience.…”

“…While deliberate practice can be used as a pointer to better performance, measuring years one has worked in a domain was found to be a bad indicator of expertise (Malhotraa, Leeb, & Khuranaa, 2007). Despite having vast number of years of experience in a given field, if the expert ceases to practice for a certain period of time, this disruption often leads to a decline in the expert's level of performance.…”
