Donation after circulatory death and liver transplantation: a cohort study

Abstract: Donations after circulatory death (DCD) are still challenging in Italy because of prolonged ischemia time (tWIT) due to the law and logistical issues. This cohort study was primarily aimed at assessing the association between successful transplantation and DCD types in the North Italy Transplant program. Adjusted risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for type III versus type II DCD were estimated using a Poisson regression model with a robust error variance. All consecutive DCD between 2008 and 2… Show more

“…Most importantly, multicollinearity issues are not mentioned, which is a phenomenon that undermines the statistical significance of an independent variable, increases the standard deviation of variables, as well as the inverse direction of coefficients [30][31][32]. Logistical regression is generally popular in the application of epidemiology [33][34][35][36]; most research investigated models without eliminating multicollinearity among variables. PCA is one of the effective ways to reduce dimensionality and minimize multicollinearity.…”

“…It is well recognized that DCD livers expose the recipient to increased risk from the inevitably longer donor warm ischemia time (dWIT). Aside from primary nonfunction [4], the most feared complication, and one of the main reasons for graft loss, is ischemic cholangiopathy (IC), defined as the appearance of intrahepatic non-anastomotic biliary strictures (NAS), which occurs in 10%-50% of cases [5][6][7][8][9]. The increasing use of normothermic preservation machines (NMP) might significantly modify these complication rates [10].…”

“…Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is one of the effective ways to reduce dimensionality and minimize multicollinearity. Currently published articles of logistical regression based on PCA are focused on genome−wide association studies [16] and diseases research such as gestational diabetes mellitus [17] and nephropathy [18], which is hard to see in medical gap research. PCA−based LA health access analysis of the medical gap aims to compare comprehensive social−economic impacts between unadjusted conditions and adjusted conditions.…”
