Marianthi Ntikoudi,

Abstract: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness. The pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy is multifactorial and incompletely understood. Accordingly, treatment options are limited. Recent data suggest that dopamine might play a role in the development and progression of DR. In the present review, we discuss these data and comment on the potential role of dopamine modulation in the management of this devastating microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus.
