Sir,We read with great interest the case report by Behera et al. on a double suicide by hanging with one single ligature [1]. As the authors discuss, the case presented is unique in the sense that a common ligature was used by the couple to complete the process of hanging which has not been cited earlier in the literature. In the famous textbook on forensic medicine of the Austrian Forensic Pathologist Eduard von Hofmann (1837-1897) "Lehrbuch der Gerichtlichen Medizin," 7th Edition, Vienna, 1895, a case of double suicide by hanging is included [2].A young 17-year-old girl and her 20-year-old friend committed suicide in a hotel by hanging using one ligature. The door was open, and the ligature, a bed sheet, was running over the opened door. On the left side, the girl was hanging with the knot under the chin, and on the right side the man with the knot in the neck. A suicide note was found. According to this note, they tried to commit suicide at first by intoxication. After this failure, they committed suicide by hanging using one ligature.Even concerning unique cases the old Roman phrase proves right: "Nihil novo sub sole."
