Down-Regulation of Murine Contact Sensitivity by Hapten-Amino Acid Derivatives

Abstract: The low responsiveness of contact sensitivity (CS) in sensitized and challenged mice was induced by using hapten-amino acid derivatives. Subcutaneous injection of trinitrophenyl (TNP)-lysine or oxazolone-glycine inhibited ear swelling responses in mice that received rechallenge. The inhibitory effect was long-lasting and antigen-specific. TNP-lysine blocked the transfer of CS in vivo and the binding of immune lymph node cells to antigen in vitro.
