Doxapram and postoperative chest complications

Abstract: Summary In a double‐blind study, an infusion of doxapram, 1 mg/kg/hour, for 4 hours after upper abdominal surgery reduced the incidence of spontaneous cough but did not influence the incidence of other chest complications, such as increased expectoration of sputum or abnormal physical signs.
