DPWSec: Devices profile for Web Services Security

Abstract: As cyber-physical systems (CPS) build a foundation for visions such as the Internet of Things (IoT) or Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), their communication security is crucial so they cannot be abused for invading our privacy and endangering our safety. In the past years many communication technologies have been introduced for critically resource-constrained devices such as simple sensors and actuators as found in CPS. However, many do not consider security at all or in a way that is not suitable for CPS. Also, … Show more

“…Two of the papers in this category stand out. The first adapts the Web Service (WS) Security specification [86], which is intended for loosely coupled distributed systems, to the IoT environment by extending it to allow identity management functions to be offloaded from computationally "weak" devices to "strong" ones [30]. The proposed method, termed DPWSec, also simplifies the original WS-Security specification by removing unneeded portions: multihop security, statelessness, hosting and hosted devices, and the device profile communication model.…”

“…Sebastian Unger and Dirk Timmermann [10] Instead of searching for another security strategy, author have looked for an existing, solution that can be widely accepted related to domain as security framework for devices that are sensitive. By analyzing its concepts carefully and the parts which are suitable and necessary for IOT systems.…”
