Draft Genome Sequence of Arthrobacter globiformis mrc11, an Antimicrobial Agent Isolated from a Khangkhui Cave Deposit

Abstract: Arthrobacter globiformis mrc11 was isolated from a Khangkhui cave deposit. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this phylogenetically novel organism, which has a genome size of 4.89 Mb, a 65.9% GC content, and 4,657 predicted open reading frames that can be translated.

“…Deviations from this standard can be employed as potential evidence for HGT. Yavru has an average GC content of 64.3%, and Arthrobacter globiformis NRRL B-2979 has an average GC content of 66.2% (similar to those of published A. globiformis strains [ 21 ]). Gene 16 of Yavru, a MerR-like helix-turn-helix DNA binding domain protein, possesses a significantly higher GC content (73.1%) and therefore is a possible horizontal acquisition from a foreign genome.…”

“…In addition, Arthrobacter pascens isolated from the rhizosphere of forest soil in China reported a salt-tolerant bacterial strain, that secretes IAA, dissolves inorganic phosphorus, and degrades persistent organic (POPs) pollutants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as fluoranthene (30). Like that, Arthrobacter globiformis to which Pseudarthrobacter Hai'l2 is related was isolated from a cave deposit in India and contained biosynthetic genes for encoding putative secondary metabolites and other antibiotics and showed antimicrobial activity (31). Arthrobacter globiformis was also found to ameliorate salt stress, which suggests the possibility to use this strain as inoculum for plants growing in highly saline soils (32).…”

“…Typically, viral genes have about the same [ 30 ] or slightly lower GC content [ 31 ] compared to their bacterial hosts, suggesting that genes with higher GC content may have been horizontally transferred. BlueFeather had an overall average GC content of 64.30% and Arthrobacter globiformis mrc11 was found to have an overall GC content of 65.9% [ 32 ]. BlueFeather gene-specific average GC contents ranged from 59.30% to 70.30%, and genes with maximum average GC contents were considered for HGT.…”
