Drinking Water Quality at Academic Institutions of Tangail Municipality

Abstract: An experiment was conducted to explore the drinking water quality at some selected academic institutions of Tangail municipality during the period of August to September, 2012. For this, an investigation was carried out to study the standard water quality parameters such as pH, EC, TDS, Pb, As, Fe and E. coli concentration of the five academic institutions. In general, there were no major differences found in pH, EC and TDS values among the studied stations and not exceeded the recommended thresholds. In case … Show more

“…Access to safe drinking water is one of the basic human rights and is enormously crucial to good health. Diseases related to contamination of drinking-water constitute major causes on human health in Bangladesh [3]. About 1.1 billion people have no access to safe drinking water and diarrheal disease is highly endemic in these societies [4].…”

“…However, being a largely agriculture-based economy and lying in a delta region, Bangladesh warrants a great concern over the drinking water quality. Therefore, many researchers have evaluated groundwater quality in different Divisions (administrative headquarters which further split into several districts) of Bangladesh including Chittagong [26][27][28][29][30][31][32], Dhaka [33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40], Khulna [41][42][43][44], Rajshahi [28,[45][46][47][48][49][50], Sylhet [51], Rangpur [52], Barisal [35], and Mymensingh [34]. Commercial jarred and bottled water which are sold for drinking purposes in Bangladesh were also evaluated in terms of public health significance [53,54].…”

“…Commercial jarred and bottled water which are sold for drinking purposes in Bangladesh were also evaluated in terms of public health significance [53,54]. Furthermore, the water ranking of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) [55] and Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University Campus of Tangail [56], as well as primary schools of Magura [57], Rajshashi [58], Tangail [38], and Satkhira [44] were evaluated for suitability of consumption. However, most of the studies only evaluated the water quality parameters in terms of the concentration only, whereas a few of them analyzed the essential groundwater quality parameters coupled with multivariate analyses of true status [26,27,59,35,36,40,41,43,45,47,55].…”
