Dual-Band Differential Filter Using Broadband Common-Mode Rejection Artificial Transmission Line

Abstract: Abstract-A new balanced dual-band bandpass filter with strong common-mode rejection is presented in this paper. Common-mode rejection is provided by a section of a periodic microstrip differential line that behaves as a low-pass filter under common-mode operation. In contrast, the differential line exhibits very good all-pass behavior under differential mode operation. This structure is combined with a differential dual-band bandpass filter based on embedded resonators. Simulations and experiments confirm that… Show more

“…due to the application of periodic structure. For the multilayer common-mode filters (based on the metamaterial transmission line [3] and the hybrid structure of meandered signal pair and an improved mushroom-type cell [7], and LPC technology [9]), this work shows a good compromise between the common-mode suppression, design complexity and fabrication cost.…”

“…The common-mode suppression behavior is also investigated based on planar electromagnetic bandgap structures by Orlandi et al in [8]. Besides, the artificial transmission line [9] and the multilayer liquid crystal polymer technology [10] are used in the common-mode suppression as well, and the balanced bandpass filters based on them are successfully designed.…”

“…However, the suppression of the common‐mode in such differential lines is a due, at least in the frequency region of interest, since there are several sources of common‐mode noise. Many types of common‐mode suppressed differential lines have been reported in the literature . In most of these lines, the common‐mode is suppressed by etching patterns in the ground plane.…”

“…Transmission line (TL) is an important device for guiding and propagating electromagnetic waves in a special band, and it has been widely used in communications [1,2], pulse modulation and signal measurement [3][4][5][6], microwave technology [7][8][9][10] and pulsed power technology [11][12][13][14][15]. Every TL has its own characteristic impedance, and the impedance of a dispersive TL changes in line with the work frequency [15,16].…”
