Dual-Emission Carbon Dots for Fluorescent Sensing of Permanganate

Panpan Zhu,
Kejun Tan

Abstract: Dual-emission carbon dots (D-CDs) were facilely synthesized from fluorexon in ethanol via a solvothermal method. The prepared D-CDs with abundant O-/N-containing groups show two significant emissions with a wavelength in the visible region. A fluorescence (FL) platform with high sensitivity and selectivity was developed for detecting MnO4 – in actual matrices using the D-CDs. The intensity ratio at 520 to 436 nm exhibited good linearity across the MnO4 – concentration. Structural and optical characterizations … Show more

“…The presence of excitation-dependent emission from our carbon dots could find similar applications involving similar types of emissions, such as metal ion detection [52], biosensing and photodynamic therapy [53], and fluorescent sensing and solar cells [54]. In addition, our carbon dots also exhibited dual emission behavior, a unique optical property that can be used in various applications such as cell imaging [55,56], sensing and environmental monitoring [57,58], and light emitting diodes [59].…”
