Dual Functionalized Injectable Hybrid Extracellular Matrix Hydrogel for Burn Wounds

Abstract: Low strength and rapid biodegradability of Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) restrict 37 wider clinical application as rapid cell delivery platform in situ, for management of burn 38 wounds. Herein, extracted ADM was modified by dual cross-linking approach with ionic 39 crosslinking using chitosan (CTS) and covalent cross-linking using an iodine modified 2, 5-40 dihydro-2,5-dimethoxy-furan (DHF-I) cross-linker; termed as CsADM-Cl. In addition, 41 inherent growth factors and cytokines were found to be preserved in … Show more

“…The hemocompatibility of the cl -β-CD/pVIz hydrogel sample was assessed using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) mixed blood following a standard protocol as reported previously. ,, Briefly 5 mL of whole blood was centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 5 min to separate the red blood cells (RBCs). The RBCs were resuspended in 1× sterile PBS to perform the experiments.…”

“…The hydrogel was able to speed deep partial thickness burn wound healing and resolve pains during wound dressing changes with glycine. Dhara et al ( Bankoti et al, 2020b ) constructed injectable hydrogel through blending extracted acellular dermal matrix from full thickness skin with chitosan. This hydrogel preserved innate biological composition, ultrastructure with enhanced mechanical properties and demonstrated rapid full thickness burn wound healing.…”

“…Various non-antibiotic antibacterial compounds have been used to formulate scaffolds for cutaneous tissue regeneration. Under-development products such as cellulose-based biomaterial with mineral antimicrobials such as montmorillonite nanocomposites [28], chitosan-based antibacterial scaffolds [29][30][31] and burn dressings incorporating metallic antimicrobials such as silver nanoparticles [32][33][34] or other metallic antibacterial agents such as gallium ions [35] have shown promise in promoting wound healing while exhibiting antimicrobial properties.…”
