Dual-responsive luminescent sensors based on two Cd-MOFs: rare enhancement toward acac and quenching toward Cr2O72−

Abstract: Two luminescent Cd-MOFs were employed as dual-responsive luminescence sensors to detect acac and Cr2O72− through turn-on and turn-off mechanisms.

“…As is well known, acetylacetone (acac) has been excessively employed as precursor or intermediate in organic synthesis, [18] modifier or chelating agent in sol‐gel mathod, [19] additive for gasoline and lubricants, [20] a nonaqueous redox‐flow battery [21] and an analytical extraction and separation reagent [22] . Nevertheless, as a flammable, volatile toxic chemical, acac can cause serious environmental issues and health problems such as dizziness, sicchasia, vomit, unconscious, etc [23] .…”

“…The coordination of Cd metal (d 10 ) with the ligands and possible stacking interactions inside the frameworks likely influenced the rigidity and degree of π-electron overlap, in addition to the energy transition, owing to the interaction of guest analytes causing differences in emission. [197] MOF-based sensors can recognize acetone solvent molecules with high efficiency. Recently, Zho and coworkers reported an Eu(III)-MOF with imine nitrogen and OH functionalities that showed electrostatic interactions with acetone molecules, resulting in quenching of the luminescence spectra of the MOF.…”
