Durability Performance and Thermal Resistance of Structural Self-Compacting Concrete Improved with Waste Rubber and Silica Fume

Abstract: Waste rubber takes many years to decompose, and thus the increasing number of tires in the world can be characterised as an important environmental issue, which generated the idea of implementing crumb rubber in structural self-compacting concrete (SCC). According to previous studies, up to 15% recycled rubber and 5% silica fume can be used to achieve the required properties of SCC in reinforced structural members with congested reinforcement, both in the fresh and hardened state. Most studies have focused on … Show more

“…The results of the ANN analysis showed good agreement with the chosen configuration, confirming the effectiveness of the selected neural network architecture. The findings of this study align with previous research in the field, including studies by Bušić et al [46] on the durability performance and thermal resistance of selfcompacting concrete improved with waste rubber and silica fume, Christopher Gnana raj [47] on the impact of additives on SCC and their effects on mechanical behavior, and Montag et al [48] who presented a rapid chloride migration test to evaluate chloride penetration resistance under different conditions. The consistency between these studies reinforces the credibility and relevance of the current findings within the broader scientific context.…”

“…These parameters consist of the water-to-cement ratio (w/c), the superplasticizer dosage (SNF%), the slump flow table diameter, the slump flow time at T50 cm, the V-funnel time, and the Vfunnel time at T5 minutes. These values provide insight into the workability and flow characteristics of the concrete mixtures [43][44][45][46][47]. T50 cm slump flow time represents the amount of time required for 50 cm of concrete to flow.…”

“…Furthermore, the natural fibers with low cost can be used to prevent the reinforced concrete’s corrosion. However, the effect of natural fibers on cement concrete’s mechanical strengths are limited [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]. Therefore, the natural fibers are not suitable as reinforcing materials for UHPC.…”
