Dusty plasmas: synthesis, structure and dynamics of a dust cloud in a plasma

Abstract: Plasmas are energetic media that can give birth to dust particles due to the presence of reactive gases or plasma-surface interactions. Industrial plasmas are often concerned by these dust particles that can be either unwanted or useful for the process. For fusion plasmas, production of dust particles from wall erosion is a serious issue for performance and safety reasons. In this article, some aspects of dusty plasmas with potential implications for plasma experimenters will be discussed. Convenient ways for … Show more

“…The optical registration of dust structures in plasma was carried out by means of microscope (6) equipped with 50 fps high resolution camcorder (7) and diagnostic laser (8), and was synchronized with the electric measurements. The laser beam thickness of 150 μm (9) was smaller than the distance between the dust particles. The voltage drop across rings (4) was measured using 100 mps voltmeter (10) with input impedance of 1 G .…”

“…Most recent study of the synthesis, spatial distributions and dynamics of a dust cloud in plasma is represented in [9]. However, only few works concern the influence of dust structures on plasma parameters.…”

“…Lately, with the big achievement concerning electronic devices miniaturization, these dust particles could be used in many industrial applications related to nanotechnology. Dusty plasmas [3,4] can also be found in astrophysical environments [5], like almost everywhere (comet tails, planetary nebulae, atmospheres [6] and rings) or in fusion devices [7] like the future ITER.…”

“…The number density of constituents and energy balance equations were used to study the non-uniform dependence of the different variables on the dimensionless axial intensity of the beam; also, the computation was carried out to see The variation of the electron number density, n ea /n e , has been plotted against time [s] for different values of the dust grain number density n d in Figure 2. [43][44][45][46][47] Figure 5 shows the variation of the effective collision frequency with time. Figure 3 displays the variation of dust charge state with time, which indicates that the negative dust charge state decreases with time on account of the decreasing number density of electrons with increased dust density.…”
