Dyeing Silk Fabric with Natural Dye from Longan Leaves Using Simultaneous Mordanting Method

Abstract: Natural dye solution from longan leaves was applied to the simultaneous dyeing of silk fabric and using alum, copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate and stannous chloride as a mordanting agents. The dyeing properties and effects of simultaneous-mordanting on the hue, colour strength and colour value were revealed. The results show that The K/S values increased with an increase of metal mordant concentration. The mordant activity sequence was CuSO4> FeSO4> AlK(SO4)2 > SnCl2. The obtained colour values show th… Show more

“…It explains that lower value of L* has higher darker shades and higher value of L* has lighter shades for tencel fabric. The +a* value indicates red and -a* values indicates green colour, while +b* values indicates yellow and -b* values indicates blue colour [31]. Due to chemical mordants, the highest colour value (K/S = 4.72) was found with ferrous sulphate and lowest colour value (K/S = 1.57) with copper sulphate.…”

“…The darkest brown color in 70g/l lime water staining is silk, and rayon is lighter than cotton and silk. The higher the fixator concentration, the darker the color results [1,13,14,23].…”

“…Table 1 shows the coloring effect on dyed lyocell fabric samples using fi ve different mordanting agents in pre-mordanting and post-mordanting methods at the same temperature of 90 o C. Data color, SF-600 was used to measure the dye captivation concentration on the shallow of lyocell fabric. In addition, the ranges of color were also found different on lyocell fabric samples using L*, a*, b*, C*, and h values [30]. Table 2 shows the CIE Lab (L*, a*, b*, C*, and h*) values of dyed lyocell fabric samples at 90 o C. It is observed that the color shade values of lyocell fabrics with mordanting agent ferrous sulfate is higher in both mordanting methods as compared to the other mordanting agents used for dyeing.…”
