Dynamic Load Balancing With Handover in Hybrid Li-Fi and Wi-Fi Networks

Abstract: In this paper, a hybrid network combining light fidelity (Li-Fi) with a radio frequency (RF) wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network is considered. An additional tier of very small Li-Fi attocells which utilise the visible light spectrum offers a significant increase in wireless data throughput in an indoor environment while at the same time providing room illumination. Importantly, there is no interference between Li-Fi and Wi-Fi. A Li-Fi attocell covers a significantly smaller area than a Wi-Fi access point (AP). … Show more

“…In Li-Fi Networks (Li-Net) every vehicle may behave differently like a sender, recipient and switch to lead correspondences. Vehicle to Vehicle Communication (VC) can be stated as 1) "Inter-Vehicle Communication (IVC)", 2)" Roadside-Vehicle Communication (RVC)", and 3) "Hybrid Vehicle Communication (HVC)" (6) .…”

“…More recent works focused on upper layer solutions to transform VLC into a multi-user, scalable and fully networked wireless technology. These address medium access [29,30], interference management [31], handover techniques [32] and resource allocation [33].…”

“…Herald Haas and his research team at the University of Edinburgh proposed the concept of "light fidelity (Li-Fi)", defined as "the subset of VLC that exhibits highspeed, bidirectional, and fully networked communication". Li-Fi is considered as a "bright spot" for VLC applications, and it is expected to complement wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) [4]- [6].…”
