Dynamics of changes in surface water quality indicators of the Western Bug River basin within Ukraine using GIS technologies

Abstract: The environmental assessment of the surface water quality of the Western Bug River has been made using the system of classification quality of land surface water of Ukraine in accordance with the approved methodology, which allows comparing water quality of separate areas of water objects of different regions. The calculation of the environmental assessment of water quality has been carried according to three blocks: block of salt composition, block of trophic and saprobic (ecological and sanitary) indicators … Show more

“…The main contaminants of household discharges are: BOD, ammonium nitrogen, total iron, phosphates, suspended particles. In previous years, the same data were confirmed in the studies by Wozniuk et al [13], Hopchak et al [15], Chmielowski et al [17]. After getting into the surface reservoirs, they cause rapid development of plants and increase the number of zooplankton.…”

“…The rivers Horyn and Putylivka have the same characteristics (average values I 3 = 2,2-2,7, the worst values I 3 = 3,6-3,9). The water quality of these rivers corresponds to 2 and 3 categories, subcategories 2 and 3 (2) with average values of I 3 and 4th category, and subcategories 3-4 and 4, by the worst, II and III quality class, «good», «clean» and «satisfactory», «polluted».…”

“…The monitoring studies of the hydro-ecological status of the river basin continue to this day, already with the use of GIS technologies. They help not only to reflect the dynamics of the water quality changes on maps, but also to track the cause and effect of anthropogenic pollutants on the aquatic ecosystem in order to predict quality in the future [Gopchak et al 2019].…”
