Dynamics of Competition in the Hungarian Poultry Industry

Abstract: This study examines the competitive nature of the Hungarian poultry sector between 2006 and 2016. The poultry population has stagnated over the period investigated, however the farm structure has changed significantly and the population of poultry held by individual farms has decreased. In this research, market competition was measured with the persistence of abnormal profits, while profit persistence was estimated using the Arellano-Bond GMM and Blundell-Bond dynamic panel regression. Based on the results, it… Show more

“…The scholars worldwide investigated the university-industry collaboration in general and in R&D in particular.Firstly, collaboration is closely studied in relation to the problem of chain capabilities and resilience for sustainability (Alzate et al, 2022;Małys, 2023). Samusevych et al (2021) emphasised the role of education in the chain, Cortes et al (2021) the role of entrepreneurship, Abdimomynova et al (2021) the role of public-private partnership, Świadek & Gorączkowska (2020) and Bareith & Csonka (2022) the importance of institutional support for innovation coopetition in industry.…”

“…Price volatility is a particularly high risk in the agricultural sector because profit levels in many production sectors are close to equilibrium profit, which is minimal. (Bareith and Csonka 2019; Bareith and Csonka (2022) During 2021-2022, many commodity prices rose to record levels. As a result, Hungary in 2022 experienced high inflation, large trade deficits, and an unstable macroeconomic environment.…”

“…Intensive poultry farming makes the problem with poultry diets urgent. Therefore, research studies on cheaper and accessible feed and biologically active principles that can increase poultry productivity and reduce the cost of production are important [16,17].…”

“…Since 2000, there has been a growing interest in the use of humus and its biologically active principles in livestock farming. Several scientific studies on feed absorption efficiency in poultry farming [2,6,8,10,[17][18][19][20][21][22] have shown a positive effect on the quality of meat and eggs and livestock health. Some research studies have found that various feed additives and biologically active principles included in the poultry diet increased the productivity of poultry, increased feed absorption efficiency, and consequently reduced production cost per kilogram of meat produced [10,23].…”
