“…A large left atrial myxoma is a very rare cause of repetitive dysphagia ( 18 ). Mishima et al ( 19 ) reported a patient in whom dysphagia was caused by the compression of a large left atrial myxoma and resolved after myxoma resection.…”

“…Due to its unpredictable presentation, a high index of suspicion aids in the diagnosis of atrial myxoma. Oesophageal compression is associated with left atrial enlargement secondary to mitral valve stenosis,9 but symptoms of dysphagia due to an atrial myxoma has only been reported twice in the literature 5 6. Compression of the oesophagus by distortion of the atrial anatomy due to the atrial mass as described in this case without left atrial enlargement is rare, since the anatomical course of the oesophagus is usually parallel to the left-sided pulmonary veins, instead of at the centre of the posterior wall of the left atrium 10.…”

“…Approximately 20% of atrial myxomas are asymptomatic 4. Gastrointestinal symptoms related to an atrial myxoma is rare, with only two prior cases reported in the literature presenting with dysphagia 5 6…”

“…After the treatment for the underlying mitral regurgitation, the patient's dysphagia can be gradually alleviated [44]. Large left atrial myxoma may cause repetitive dysphagia as likely as an enlarged left atrium does [74]. Dysphagia resolves after the resection of the left atrial myxoma [74].…”
