Early effectiveness of isolated pectoralis minor tenotomy in selected patients with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome

Abstract: Isolated PMT is a low-risk outpatient procedure that is effective for the treatment of selected patients with disabling NTOS, with early outcomes similar to SCD+PMT. These findings emphasize the importance of recognizing subcoracoid brachial plexus compression as part of the spectrum of NTOS and support the role of PMT in surgical management.

[11,12] About 99% of neurogenic cases are characterized by clinical features of brachial plexus compression, such as pain and other symptoms, without objective findings.…”

“…Efforts to provide earlier diagnosis of NTOS, such as with exercise-enhanced scalene muscle anesthetic blocks, 32,33 may help improve results from physical therapy, use of alternative approaches (e.g., scalene muscle injections with botulinum toxin), 34,35 or different forms of surgical treatment. 36…”

“…Recovery time postoperatively is often few days, with recommendation of refraining from using the arm for activities above the level of the shoulder for 2-3 months in order to permit the adherence of the divided PM muscle to the chest wall [ 3 ]. Success rate is higher when the PMS is diagnosed solely compared to an association with other entities such as NTOS [ 9 ].…”
