Early Wound Healing Score (EHS): An Intra- and Inter-Examiner Reliability Study

Abstract: The early wound healing score (EHS) was introduced to assess early wound healing of periodontal soft tissues after surgical incision. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the intra- and inter-examiner reliability of the EHS. Six examiners with different levels of training and clinical focus were enrolled. Each examiner was trained on the use of the EHS before starting the study. Thereafter, 63 photographs of three different types of surgical incisions taken at day 1, 3 or 7 post-operatively were independen… Show more

“…In the present study, EHS, a score assessing clinical signs of reepithelialization (CSR), haemostasis (CSH) and inflammation (CSI) (Marini et al, 2018;Marini et al, 2019), was used to evaluate the clinical healing response of M, G and P tissues 24 hr and 1 week after injury.…”

“…The PeriAcryl® 90 HV is a commercially available tissue adhesive composed of a blend of n-butyl cyanoacrylate and 2-octyl cyanoacrylate. These two cyanoacrylates have previously been studied, and by means of this combination, it is expected that the mechanical strength and cytotoxicity could be controlled, resulting in an adhesive that can effectively serve as a barrier without undesirable side effects [20][21][22]. Cytotoxicity is one of the three main biological responses studied in order to de ne whether a material has the ability to be biocompatible, and would obtain an adequate response when applied [23].…”

“…These parameters may be evaluated in a clinical scenario, based on the Early-Wound Healing Index (EHI) and Early Wound Healing Score (EHS), as accurate and reproducible methods to assess wound healing in periodontal soft tissues [26,20]. While the former describes the ap closure in 5 scores, considering the amount of brin and presence of necrosis, the latter, EHS, evaluates the early response of in ammation considering the clinical signs of reepithelization, hemostasis, and in ammation.…”

“…The available conventional dosage forms are not very much effective in the treatment of diseases as they are absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract, which may lead to many adverse effects 14 . Dexamethasone is a drug of choice to treat inflammatory bowel disease 15 . It is well documented that dexamethasone can be completely absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract when free dexamethasone is simultaneously administered orally 16 .…”
