Easy and Safe All-Inside Suture Technique for Posterior Horn Tears of Lateral Meniscus Using Standard Anteromedial and Anterolateral Portals

Abstract: The importance of the lateral meniscus in weight bearing, distribution of force, shock absorption, articular cartilage protection, proprioception, stabilization of the joint, and joint lubrication is well known. Surgeons currently agree on the importance of preserving the menisci. Different suture techniques have been standardized. These include outsidein, inside-out, and all-inside techniques. The all-inside technique can be used to repair lesions of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus. However, this t… Show more

“…New techniques, 6,10 improvements in devices, 18 and improved physician education and surgical training 20 may have also increased the comfort level with the procedure among graduating trainees during our study period. Furthermore, outcome studies of both isolated meniscal repairs and meniscal repairs in the setting of ACL reconstruction have shown promising results with different meniscal repair techniques.…”

“…Similarly, Hagino et al [ 3 ] reported a relatively low incidence of isolated anterior horn among a total of 499 cases of meniscus tear. Despite the rarity of an isolated anterior horn tear, the biomechanical studies of the knee showed the torn meniscus could affect the transmission of load, stability, lubrication, and cartilage nutrition [ 4 6 ]. Hence, arthroscopic partial meniscectomy has been recommended to be a proper treatment for irreparable meniscal tears [ 7 ].…”
