Eccrine hidrocystomas presenting as multiple papules on the cheeks

Eccrine hidrocystomes (EH) are benign cystic tumors of dermal eccrine ducts. There is still no gold standard treatment option for EH because of the large number of lesions, the risk of cicatrization and the different treatment options offered. We offer combined oral isotretinoin and following erbium-yttrium aluminum garnet laser treatment as an alternative treatment option in difficult patients with EH.

A 55-year-old woman was referred to our department for multiple asymptomatic translucent skin-colored vesiculopapular lesions located on the cheeks and eyelids. The lesions were present since 5 years, worsening in summer and regressing in cold weather ( Fig. 1).Dermoscopic findings revealed a well-demarcated homogenous bluish area surrounded by a pale halo with arborizing vessels (using a nonpolarized Fotofinder dermoscope X20) ( Fig. 2). Histopathological findingsA 4 mm punch skin biopsy was performed. The biopsy revealed a normal epidermis. The dermis showed a solitary cyst lined with a layer of small cuboidal cells. Eccrine hidrocystomas presenting as multiple papules on the cheeks

Abstract: Hidrocystomas are common, benign adnexal neoplasms most frequently found on the eyelids, canthi, or periocular areas. Herein, we report a case of multiple hidrocystomas distributed over less common facial areas: cheeks and cutaneous lips.
