“…Bosely (2014) observed higher rates of fertile cysts in sheep and goats (81% and 39.06) than the sterile (13% and 35.93%) and calcified (6% and 25%), respectively. In contrast also Chaligiannis et al(2015) reported that cyst fertility was constantly higher in lungs than liver in both sheep and goats (4% and 2.7%; 2.4% and 0.45%, respectively). while in cattle; the number of sterile cyst was higher (79.03%) than the fertile and calcified cysts (17.74% and 3.22%), respectively.…”

“…A control programme has been in force since 1984, and surveillance in livestock species since 1998 has documented prevalences of 31.3% in sheep, 10.3% in goats, 0.6% in pigs and 0% in cattle (Sotiraki et al, 2003). A survey conducted by Chaligiannis et al (2015) conducted an epidemiological survey in different geographical regions of Greece (Thrace, Thessaly, Western and central Macedonia). In the Thrace region, hydatid cysts were found in 33.3% of sheep, while prevalences were 30.3% and 26.1% in sheep of western and central Macedonia, respectively.…”

“…This indicates the endemicity of CE in buffaloes at Mansoura, Dakahlia province. Diversified prevalences were reported from different countries such as 42% in Greece [18], 8.7% in Italy [19], 3.81% in India [10], 9% in Iran [20], and 7.19% in Pakistan [21]. …”

“…Our molecular results indicated the homogeneity of those cysts with G1 genotype (common sheep strain). Furthermore, the previous reports discussed the low fertility rate of hydatid cysts of buffaloes (7.3%) and their relation to the G1 [18,20]. While in Pakistan, where the G3 (buffalo strain) was the prevalent genotype, the fertility rate was high (84.3%) [21].…”
