Abstract: In the year 1997, nearly a quarter-century ago, Nishimura and Tajik (J Am Coll Cardiol. 1997;30:8) suggested that Doppler echocardiography was the "Rosetta stone" (a metaphor for decrypting secrets of diastole) of left ventricular diastole, based solely on transmitral E/A ratio and its progression from grade I through IV, supported by cardiac catheterization, as the filling pressure started to increase to over 15 mm Hg.
