Eco-development of oil and gas industry: CCUS-EOR technology

Abstract: The current status and development prospects of CCUS-EOR technology development are sorted out from the perspective of ecological development. A good foundation is laid to promote the world low-carbon development pattern and the development of CCUS-EOR technology in oil-rich, low-permeability reservoirs. By analyzing the differences between China and the United States regarding the technology level, application scale, and production effect, the development gaps between different countries in terms of CO2 buria… Show more

“…Therefore, CCUS-EOR technology holds vast application prospects in China. The Bohai Bay, Songliao, Ordos, and Junggar Basins are among the areas with the greatest CCUS-EOR potential, and some demonstration projects have already been implemented. The Ordos Basin, in particular, represents one of the most favorable and safe regions for large-scale implementation of CCUS-EOR on land, with an estimated EOR potential of approximately 37 × 10 8 t and a CO 2 storage capacity of up to 10 × 10 8 t. However, the large-scale industrial application in China still faces numerous technical and economic challenges, such as the high cost of CO 2 capture, limitations in supercritical CO 2 pipeline transportation technology, and complexities in mixed-phase flooding mechanisms and fluid flow behaviors.…”

“…It is a crucial tool for reducing carbon emissions in sectors such as coal-fired power generation, cement, and steel production [13]. CCUS-EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) [14], a key extension of CCUS, can inject the captured CO 2 into oil reservoirs to enhance oil recovery and reduce carbon emissions by storing the injected CO 2 in the reservoirs, thereby achieving the dual goals of increasing production efficiency and protecting the environment [15].…”
