Ecobrick as a Plastic Waste Management Solution in Molingkapoto Village Gorontalo Utara Regency

Abstract

In Gorontalo, BPS reports that inorganic waste was the dominant type of waste in 2020, with 50.77 tons transported per day. Plastics are considered to be inorganic wastes, which are waste produced from nonbiological materials either as synthetic products or through technological processes for extracting minerals and natural resources. The results of interviews with residents indicate that in Molingkapoto Village, Kwandang District, Gorontalo Utara Regency, there is a large amount of plastic waste that has not been effectively utilized. Therefore, it is necessary to take steps to manage plastic waste. One way to achieve this is through the use of Ecobricks. In this activity, ecobricks will be used in every hamlet of Molingkapoto Village as a trash can to recycle plastic waste. By acquiring trash cans, residents can prevent plastics from accumulating in the environment. The methods are as follows: Conduct initial interviews with local residents;Preparation of tools and materials for making ecobricks; Making ecobricks for the procurement of trash cans in each hamlet; and Handing over the ecobrick trash cans to the Head of Molingkapoto Village, Kwandang District, Gorontalo Utara Regency and placing the trash bins in each hamlet. Kata Kunci: Platic Waste; Inorganic; Non Degradable; RecycleAbstrakVolume sampah terangkut per hari di Gorontalo pada tahun 2020 menurut BPS mencapai 72.53 ton, dengan sampah anorganik merupakan jenis sampah yang mendominasi, yaitu sebanyak 50.77 ton. Dari hasil wawancara, diketahui bahwa di Desa Molingkapoto Kecamatan Kwandang Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara terdapat jumlah sampah plastik yang sangat banyak dan belum termanfaatkan secara optimal. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan, yaitu melalui pemanfaatan Ecobrick. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan ecobrick sebagai tempat sampah yang diletakkan di tiap Dusun Desa Molingkapoto sebagai inovasi recycle dari sampah plastik. Metode pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan dalam rangka edukasi metode ecobricks dilakukan dalam beberapa tahap yaitu Melakukan wawancara awal pada warga sekitar;Persiapan alat dan bahan untuk pembuatan ecobrick; Pembuatan ecobrick untuk pengadaan tempat sampah di tiap Dusun; dan Penyerahan tempat sampah ecobrick pada Kepala Desa. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah membantu pengelolaan sampah plastik di Desa Molingkapoto Kecamatan Kwandang Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara.
