In response to the escalating demand for blue swimming crabs (BSC) and the consequential impact on their habitat and population, this study advocates for sustainable management through a holistic approach. Our comprehensive framework integrates ecological conservation, socioeconomic well-being, and governance principles, aiming to establish a policy framework for the sustainable management of BSC in the Eastern Coast of Lampung. The research emphasizes the urgent issue of overexploitation, with an exploitation rate of 0.71, requiring immediate attention to prevent stock depletion and maintain ecosystem health. Findings reveal that male BSC, measured by carapace width, typically reaches the length at first catch (Lc50) at approximately 118.69 mm, while for females, it is about 122.70 mm—indicating that BSC is often caught larger than the 10 cm legal requirement set by the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries of Indonesia. Economic analysis demonstrates the profitability of the blue swimming crab business on Lampung's east coast, with a favorable crab capture per trip (4.63) and total costs ratio (1.18). The study area, featuring an extensive mangrove forest, hosts a crucial crustacean population, contributing significantly to BSC's diet. Beyond ecological significance, mangrove conservation enhances our understanding of environmental sustainability, particularly in carbon stock contributions. Addressing sustainability challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, including precise fishing technologies, effective regulation enforcement, and improved monitoring. Collaborative efforts among government authorities, fishing communities, and conservation groups are essential for balancing economic interests with the long-term ecological health of BSC populations in the study area.

Background: The spread of the COVID-19 virus has had a significant impact on the governmental and social aspects, as well as to the psychological status of the population. In Indonesia, social restriction was a strategy to limit people’s mobility to reduce virus transmission. As social beings, the imposition of social restriction makes them fall into stress due to feeling lonely, and some cannot earn money. The aim of the study was to assess the factor association of stress level and resilience of the Indonesian people during the imposition of the second social restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Design and method: A cross-sectional study was performed on respondents aged at least 18 years on 29 July–16 August 2021, when the social restriction was enforced for the second time. The online survey was conducted through several social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp) to 256 respondents. The analysis was carried out descriptively and analytically using the chi-square and binary logistic regression. Results: This study shows that there is a significant relationship between age ( p < 0.001), marital status ( p < 0.001), occupation ( p < 0.001), income before and during the pandemic ( p < 0.001) and resilience level to stress level among Indonesian. Resilience level is the only protective factor for people to not get stressed. Being normal resilience put them at 0.05 times (95% CI 0.01–0.76) more likely to have low perceived stress than low resilience. Conclusion: Resilience level is the only factor that influence stress level among people in Indonesia during the second imposed social restriction in Indonesia.

Perikanan Rajungan (Portunus pelagicus) di Indonesia memberikan devisa sebesar US$ 246,14 juta dari ekspor pada tahun 2015 dan menghidupi 65.000 nelayan dan 130.000 pengupas rajungan di Indonesia. Berdasar nilai strategisnya ini, pemanfaatan perikanan rajungan perlu memperhatikan asas keberlanjutan sumber daya. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa keberlanjutan pemanfaatan sumberdaya rajungan di Indonesia menggunakan model bioeokomi dari data hasil tangkapan rajungan di Wilayah Pengelolaan Perikanan (WPP) RI tahun 1977-2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan sumberdaya rajungan di Indonesia memberikan rente ekonomi yang tinggi pada kondisi Maksimum Sustainale Yield (MSY) dan Maksimum Economic Yield (MEY) sedangkan pada rezim open access (OA) tidak memberikan rente ekonomi. Mengacu pada hasil penelitian maka pengaturan pemanfaatan sumberdaya rajungan dengan upaya dan produksi yang mendekati batas MEY diharapkan dapat menjamin keberlanjutan usaha rajungan baik secara biologi maupun ekonomi. Adapun pemanfaatan secara open access (OA) hendaknya dibatasi atau dihindari karena kondisi ini tidak dapat menjamin berkelanjutan perikanan rajungan baik secara biologi maupun ekonomi.The Blue Swimming Crab (BSC, Portunus pelagicus) fishery in Indonesia provides revenue of US$ 246.14 million rom exports in 2015 and supports 65,000 fishermen and 130,000 pickers in Indonesia. Based on this value, the harvest of BSC fishery should consider the principle of resource sustainability. This study aims to analyze the sustainability of utilization of crab resources in Indonesia using bioeocomic model applied to the BSC catch data from all Fisheries Management Areas (FMA) in Indonesia from year 1977 until 2014. The results show that BSC harvest in Indonesia gives high economic rents under the conditions of Maximum Sustainale Yield (MSY) and Maximum Economic Yield (MEY) while the open access regime does not provide any economic rents. Referring to the results of the study, the arrangement of utilization of crab resources with efforts and production close to the limit of MEY is to be expected to ensure the continuity of the crab business both biologically and economically. The direction toward open access should be limited or avoided because this condition will lead to the unsustainable practices of the BSC fishery both biologically or economically.
