Ecotoxicological study of bio-based deep eutectic solvents formed by glycerol derivatives in two aquatic biomodels

Abstract: The ecotoxicity of some deep eutectic solvents formed by glycerol derivatives have been studied in two aquatic biomodels: Aliivibrio fischeri (bacteria) and Raphidocelis subcapitata (algae). The results show that these chemicals are not toxic for aquatic media.

“…The manufactured membranes with the related γ-valerolactone may be used for microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration if the pore sizes are small enough. 127 Additionally, the cellulose acetate nanofiltration membrane was produced by phase inversion using the green solvents, methyl lactate and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran. A highly porous and permeable morphology, characterized by finger-like macrovoids, was generated at low concentrations of CA.…”

“…As a result, MILs and HDESs may pose a risk of potential environmental toxicity to aquatic ecosystems. [47][48][49][50][51][52] More seriously, these substances may be transmitted through the biological chain and eventually Table 9 The purity of titanium in the stripping solution after the threestage countercurrent stripping was balanced a absorbed by humans, which may cause potential toxicity to human beings. Therefore, from the perspective of green chemistry, effective measures must be taken to purify water bodies that come into contact with MILs and HDESs, in order to avoid the potential environmental toxicity caused by the application of MILs and HDESs.…”

“…The most widespread tests are growth inhibition test, measurement of chlorophyll values, or evaluation of several biomarkers that can be used to determine if chemicals can affect the algae community. Some species used are Chlorella pyrenoidosa [96] and Raphidocelis subcapitata [93,94,97,98].…”
