“…The nature of the deposits collected in OM-treated HeLa cultures showed a calcium phosphate component; however, the mineral did not seem to be as crystalline or extracellular matrix-bound as observed in MSC cultures. In addition, HeLa cells were shown to be strongly positive for ALP activity, in line with reports that they express several ALP isoforms [Boylan et al, 1996;Kniss et al, 2002]. This could explain the substantial mineral content observed under OM conditions, as high ALP activity has been reported to contribute to unspecific mineral deposition in other systems [Russell et al, 1986;Khouja et al, 1990;Hui et al, 1997].…”

“…We showed H1R and H2R expressions in primary cultured human amniotic cells in this report. We also showed the expressions in WISH cells; however, WISH contains the possibility of contamination of HeLa cells and we did not confirm the existence of HeLa markers in the cells we used [32] .…”

“…The STR analysis, also known as DNA fingerprinting, the gold standard for cell authentication, demonstrated identity with HeLa cells and WISH cells. The WISH cells, initially isolated at the Wistar Institute by Hayflick 28 from primary amnion epithelium, are known to be contaminated with HeLa cells 29 and many in the parturition research community have used them. [6][7][8][30][31][32] Importantly, at the time when the HES cell line was isolated in our laboratory, we did not use HeLa cells.…”
