The arrival of 6G mobile communication networks is anticipated to revolutionize the technological landscape, bringing about profound innovations. This research paper explores the various technological advancements that will pave the way for the advent of 6G networks, with a particular focus on addressing energy consumption. It is widely recognized that energy efficiency plays a crucial role in the evolution of 6G networks. To enhance network performance, user experience, and resource management, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to be a pivotal technology. AI-based solutions can effectively optimize energy usage and contribute to the overall efficiency of 6G networks. Furthermore, the incorporation of wireless communication systems, telecommunication, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will be integral to the infrastructure of 6G networks. The need for significant enhancements in 6G networks is also examined in this study. Ensuring the safety and protection of 6G networks from cyber threats becomes increasingly important due to the growing reliance on networked communication and the sensitive nature of transmitted information. Cutting-edge security methods such as homomorphic encryption and blockchain technology may be essential in this regard. Moreover, this research paper explores the impact of 6G networks on various domains and discusses the challenges that must be overcome to unlock the technology’s full potential. To ensure responsible adoption and usage of 6G networks, the development of new business models and regulatory frameworks may be necessary to support their implementation while addressing energy consumption concerns.

With the rapid development of mobile communication technology and intelligent applications, the quantity of mobile devices and data traffic in networks have been growing exponentially, which poses a great burden to networks and brings huge challenge to servicing user demand. Edge caching, which utilizes the storage and computation resources of the edge to bring resources closer to end users, is a promising way to relieve network burden and enhance user experience. In this paper, we aim to survey the edge caching techniques from a comprehensive and systematic perspective. We first present an overview of edge caching, summarizing the three key issues regarding edge caching, i.e., where, what, and how to cache, and then introducing several significant caching metrics. We then carry out a detailed and in-depth elaboration on these three issues, which correspond to caching locations, caching objects, and caching strategies, respectively. In particular, we innovate on the issue "what to cache", interpreting it as the classification of the "caching objects", which can be further classified into content cache, data cache, and service cache. Finally, we discuss several open issues and challenges of edge caching to inspire future investigations in this research area.

One of the research directions in Internet of Things (IoT) is the field of Context Management Platforms (CMPs) which is a specific type of IoT middleware. CMPs provide horizontal connectivity between vertically oriented IoT silos resulting in a noticeable difference in how IoT data streams are processed. As these context data exchanges can be monetised, there is a need to model and predict the context metrics and operational costs of this exchange to provide relevant and timely context in a large-scale IoT ecosystem. In this paper, we argue that caching all transient context information to satisfy this necessity requires large amounts of computational and network resources, resulting in tremendous operational costs. Using Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between the context providers, CMP, and context consumers, where the level of service imperfection is quantified and linked to the associated costs, we show that it is possible to find efficient caching and prefetching strategies to minimize the context management cost. So, this paper proposes a novel method to find the optimal rate of IoT data prefetching and caching. We show the main context caching strategies and the proposed mathematical models, then discuss how a correctly chosen proactive caching strategy and configurations can help to maximise the profit of CMP operation when multiple SLAs are defined. Our model is accurate up to 0.0016 in Root Mean Square Percentage Error against our simulation results when estimating the profits to the system. We also show our model is valid using the t-test value tending to 0 for all the experimental scenarios.
