Edgeworth expansions for two‐stage sampling with applications to stratified and cluster sampling

Abstract: A two-term Edgeworth expansion for the standardized version of the sample total in a two-stage sampling design is derived. In particular, for the commonly used stratified and cluster sampling schemes, formal two-term asymptotic expansions are obtained for the Studentized versions of the sample total. These results are applied in conjunction with the bootstrap to construct more accurate confidence intervals for the unknown population total in such sampling schemes. “…The general mandate provided to all FMCs within the context of the laws creating them is to provide people with reliable, accessible, specialized/tertiary hospital care, which will eventually reduce the burden of illness within the population by delivering prompt and emphatic preventive, curative and rehabilitative care (Welcome, 2011) The sampling technique that was employed for this study is a multi-stage sampling. Multi-stage sampling refers to sampling plans where the sampling is carried out in stages using smaller and smaller sampling units at each stage (Mirakhmedov et al, 2015). The first stage involves purposive selection of the Southwestern zone out of the six (6) geopolitical zones in Nigeria.…”

“…Qualitative methodology can employ a number of various participant sampling strategies (Creswell, 2014).After consultation with the literature, academic mentors, and practitioners, stratified random sampling was selected due to its ability to provide the highest probability of a representative sample (Gay, 1987;Mirakhmedov, Jammalamadaka, &Ekstrom, 2015). Each sponsor of Gay Games IX was categorized into strata using the United States Small Business Administration guidelines.…”
