EEG Measurement of Emotion Processing in Children with Daytime Urinary Incontinence

Abstract: EEG responses to emotional stimuli are not altered in children with DUI. Central emotion processing does not play a major role in DUI. Further research, including a larger sample size, a more homogeneous patient group (regarding subtype of DUI) or brain imaging techniques, could reveal more about the central processing in DUI.

Hence, we could not perform a child‐specific meta‐analysis.…”

“…Hence, we could not perform a child‐specific meta‐analysis. However, our qualitative review of these studies shows that between 1% and 20% of children with LUTS had clinically significant anxiety (Joinson et al., 2006 ; Kuizenga‐Wessel et al., 2018 ; Niemczyk et al., 2018 ; Oliver et al., 2013 ; Özen et al., 2019 ; Schast Stephen et al., 2008 ; Wolfe‐Christensen et al., 2012 ; Zink et al., 2008 ), and 19%–46% had at least one psychiatric comorbidity, with ADHD having the highest rate (Niemczyk et al., 2018 ; Oliver et al., 2013 ; Schast Stephen et al., 2008 ; von Gontard et al., 1998 ; Wolfe‐Christensen et al., 2012 ; Zink et al., 2008 ).…”
