Efeito do fósforo na captação de minerais e pigmentação de Azolla caroliniana Willd. (Azollaceae)

Abstract: -(Effect of the phosphorus on the mineral uptake and pigmentation of Azolla caroliniana Willd. (Azollaceae)). Mineral bioaccumulation, N 2 fixation and pigment accumulation of A. caroliniana were established under nutritional stress. Cultures were conduced in polystyrene flasks using phosphate gradient between 10 -7 and 10 -3 mol.L -1 . Minerals (P, S, B, and Sn) were quantified by induced coupled plasma and total nitrogen by Kjeldhal methodology. Nitrogenase activity was determined by the reaction of acetylen… Show more

“…Rapid growth of another species, A. caroliniana, was observed at high concentrations of phosphorus. The metabolism associated with symbiotic nitrogen fixation by A. caroliniana-Anabaena azollae declined due to the stress induced by phosphorus deficiency, and the reduction in the nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria caused lower levels of nitrogen to accumulate in the tissues (Adalberto et al, 2004). The importance of P limitation was also found by a study of the growth of A. filiculoides in different habitats with various phosphorus levels.…”

“…A phosphorus deficiency results in a general failure of metabolism in plants and the ensuing production of pigments (Adalberto et al, 2004). In contrast, a high concentration of P increases C and N accumulation by the plant and stimulates the plant's growth, favoring the development of blooms Cheng et al, 2010).…”

“…Azolla caroliniana grew slower in fish farming effluent than in Hoagland ½ medium probably due to low nutrient availability. Phosphorus concentration in the fish farming effluent (0.05 ± 0.01 mg.L -1 ) was below the minimal nutritional requirements of A. caroliniana (~ 3 mg.L -1 ) (Adalberto et al, 2004). Nitrate concentration was also low in fish farming effluent.…”

“…Growth of A. caroliniana was low since there are reports of relative growth rates over 0.1 d -1 for this species in nutrient rich solution (Maejima et al, 2001;Arora and Singh, 2003;Adalberto et al, 2004) and rates varying from 0.017 to 0.045 d -1 for A. filliculoides in fish farming effluent (Forni et al, 2001). Salvinia auriculata cultivated in Hoagland ½ medium showed relative growth rate higher than S. herzogii (0.016 d -1 ) (Panigatti and Maine, 2003) but lower than S. molesta (0.045-0.17 d -1 ) and S. minima (0.088-0.175 d -1 ) in nutrient rich solution (Mitchell and Tur, 1975;Sale et al, 1985, Olguín et al, 2007.…”
