The maize yield, nutritional status, and grain fumonisins concentration were evaluated in different genotypes, doses, and nitrogen sources (N) in two years and three locations. Two experiments were carried out in each area and year in an experimental design of a subdivided plot with four replications. One experiment involved a 4x2 factorial treatment: four nitrogen (N) doses (0, 80, 160, and 240 kg ha-1) in coverage and having urea as a source of N and two genotypes. Another experiment involved a 4x2 factorial treatment: four N sources: urea, urea covered with polymer, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium nitrate + urea (UAN), at a dose of 160 kg ha-1, in two genotypes. The genotype generally influenced maize yield more than N doses and sources, mainly due to the bushy stunt/corn stunt tolerance of AG7098 PRO2 and AG8677 PRO2. The N doses linearly increased the N leaf content. However, the N sources did not affect the N leaf content. The N doses and sources had no significant effect on the content of fumonisins, which was affected only by the genotypes in Sete Lagoas in 2016 (N doses experiment) and 2017 (N sources experiment). The hybrids, P3630H and AG8677PRO2 (Sete Lagoas, 2016, N doses experiment and 2017, N sources experiment, respectively) exceeded the Brazilian legislation for Maximum Tolerance Limit for fumonisins in corn grains, which is 5,000 µg kg-1. The best result was obtained with AG7098 PRO2, with yields (above 10,000 kg ha-1) and fumonisins consistently below 5,000 µg kg-1. Therefore, the selection of corn hybrids is a strategy to reduce the occurrence of fumonisins in the grains.

O objetivo foi avaliar o crescimento das plantas, produção de raízes de batata-doce (Ipomoea batatas) e grãos de milho pipoca (Zea mays) em sistema de cultivo solteiro e consorciado. Foram avaliadas quatro cultivares de batata-doce e uma de pipoca em blocos casualizados com três repetições em condições de campo. No cultivo solteiro, a pipoca e batata-doce foram espaçadas 75 cm entre linhas. No consorciado, o plantio da batata-doce foi no centro das entre linhas da pipoca. A adubação foi realizada com cama de frango. Aos 30, 60 e 90 dias foi avaliado o número de folhas, altura das plantas, diâmetro do colmo/baraços e comprimento de baraços. No florescimento foi determinada a matéria seca das plantas, na maturação fisiológica a produção de grãos da pipoca e aos 180, as raízes da batata-doce. Observou-se que a pipoca apresentou a maior produção de matéria seca, número de folhas, diâmetro de colmos e altura de plantas quando solteiro, as cultivares de batata-doce quando consorciadas menor produção de matéria seca e raízes, a produção de grãos de pipoca não apresentou diferença entres os sistemas de produção. O sistema consorciado de pipoca e batata-doce promove maior produção de matéria seca e produção de alimentos por área. Intercropped cultivation of sweet potatoes and popcorn: growth and production of crops ABSTRACT: The objective was to evaluate plant growth, sweet potato productivity (Ipomoea batatas) and grains of popcorn (Zea mays) in single and intercropped systems. Four sweet potato cultivars and one popcorn in randomized blocks were evaluated with three replications in field conditions. In single cultivation, popcorn and sweet potatoes were spaced 75 cm between rows. In the intercropped, the sweet potato was in the center of between the lines of popcorn. Fertilization was carried out with chicken manure. At 30, 60 and 90 days, the number of leaves, plant height, stem/tiller diameter and tether length were evaluated. At flowering, the dry matter of the plants was determined, at physiological maturity the grain yield of the popcorn and at 180, the roots of the sweet potato. It was observed that the popcorn showed the highest production of dry matter, number of leaves, stem diameter and plant height when single, sweet potato cultivars when intercropped, lower production of dry matter and roots, the productivity of popcorn grains there was no difference between the production systems. The intercroped system of popcorn and sweet potatoes promotes greater production of dry matter and food productivity per area. Management is of fundamental importance in increasing the efficiency of liquid hog manure (LHM) when used as a source of nitrogen (N) and minimizing its impact on the environment. This paper evaluates the effect of surface application and injection of LHM and the use of dicyandiamide (DCD) on the dynamics of mineral N in the soil and on the components of yield in wheat crops. An experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Frederico Westphalen Campus, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, involving the following treatments: T0 - Control; T1 - surface application of LHM (Sup); T2 - subsurface injection of LHM (Inj); T3 - surface application of LHM + DCD (Sup+DCD); T4 - subsurface injection of LHM + DCD (Inj+DCD), and T5 - application of N, phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) in mineral form (NPK) in 2014 and 2015. The mineral N recovered with the injection of LHM was superior to surface application, and DSD reduced the speed with which anionic forms of mineral N appear. There was a greater increase in the number of ears of wheat with LHM injection. In 2014, the number of grains per ear was higher with the injection of LHM + DCD, whereas in 2015 all the treatments were higher than the control. There was no difference in 1,000-grain weight between treatments with LHM. Hectoliter weight was higher with the injection of LHM + DCD and the yields observed in this treatment were also higher, not differing from mineral fertilization. It is concluded that LHM injection provides lower losses of N and DCD and reduces the speed with which anionic forms of mineral N appear. In addition, the final yield of wheat grains does not differ when comparing LHM + DCD with mineral fertilization.
