Effect of Annealing Temperature on the Structural and Photoluminescence Properties of Y2Sn2O7:Eu Nanoparticles

Abstract: The structural and photoluminescence properties of Eu 3+doped Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 nanoparticles have been systematically studied as a function of heat treatment temperature. Crystalline Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 :Eu nanoparticles with sizes in the range of 2-5 nm were prepared at the relatively low temperature of 700°C. Based on the Rietveld refinement of powder X-ray diffraction patterns, it was confirmed that the YO 8 /EuO 8 polyhedra in the Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 :Eu lattice become more symmetric as the annealing temperature increases. … Show more

“…01-088-0508, as depicted in Figure 1 a. According to these results, Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 crystallized in pure single pyrochlore phase, and the crystal structure belongs to the cubic crystal system with the Fd-3m space group [ 21 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ]. Moreover, no additional peaks of unreacted SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O, Eu 2 O 3 , and Y 2 O 3 were observed in the XRD-data, indicating that the reaction among the raw materials was complete.…”

“…Five unique crystallographic positions are available in the Wyckoff notation: Y and Eu are disturbed at 16d (1/2, 1/2, 1/2) Wyckoff sites. Sn occupies a single position at 16c (0, 0, 0) Wyckoff sites and there are two positions possible for O at 48f (O) and 8b (O’), while 8a sites are vacant [ 21 ]. O’ are in an undisturbed position (3/8, 3/8, 3/8) with respect to the fluorite structure and are tetrahedrally coordinated by Y/Eu cations ( Figure 1 b).…”

“…The electrical properties of the pyrochlores vary from highly insulating through semiconducting to metallic behaviour [28]. Many studies prepared various pyrochlore metal oxides such as La 2 Zr 2 O 7 (that acts as thermal barrier coating), [29] Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 (that acts as excellent host matrices for photoluminescence) [30] and Gd 2 Zr 2 O 7 (that acts as a proper host material for fixation of some of the nuclear waste products) [31]. Several pyrochlore-type oxides such as K 2 Ta 2 O 6 [32], Na 2 Ta 2 O 6 [33], Pb 2 Sn 2 O 6 [34], KAl 0.33 W 1.67 O 6 [35], Ag/Sn-doped KSbTeO 6 [36], Ag/Sn-doped KSbTeO 6 [37], Na 2 Ta 2 O 6 [38] and ASbO 3 [39] were used for the decolourization of dyes such as acid red G, Congo red, methyl orange, methylene blue and rhodamine B.…”

“…The surface modifications had always been of great importance to reduce the agglomeration and for the biocompatibility of the materials. The capping agents can be surfactant like Oleic Acid or organic/inorganic groups like PEG (Poly ethylene Glycol) are used [1][2][3]. These capping can change their intrinsic physico chemical properties like surface functionality, charge reactivity and dimensions thus making them more suitable for in vivo applications [4].…”
