Effect of Argon Concentration on Laminar Burning Velocity and Flame Speed of Hydrogen Mixtures in a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber

Abstract: Hydrogen combustion, coupled with the use of argon as a working fluid, is a promising approach to delivering clean and efficient energy from internal combustion engines. The use of hydrogen-oxygen-argon (H2/O2/Ar) mixtures in combustion aids in mitigating harmful environmental pollutants and enables a highly efficient energy conversion process. The use of argon as a working fluid decreases the NOx emissions and increases the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines due to the high specific heat ratio … Show more

“…To mitigate the influence of hydrogen explosion, the addition of inert gas is well-known to be one of possible approaches. We have several reports which experimentally studied the effects of inert-gas addition on the combustion characteristics of hydrogen premixtures (Qiao et al, 2007;Bane et al, 2011;Zhang et al, 2012;Cheikhravat et al, 2015;Duan and Liu, 2017;Li et al, 2018;Li et al, 2019;Yan et al, 2020;Gong et al, 2020;Katsumi et al, 2021;Morovatiyan, et al, 2021). The addition of inert gas has the effects of decreasing the burning velocity and reducing the maximum pressure in explosion.…”

“…Particularly, regarding the measurement technology that uses helium gas, it is necessary to verify the expanding pressure characteristics, including particle mass fraction [2]. These physical changes can be seen in a hydrogen storage vessel, chamber, or tank that includes volume [3]. As much as hydrogen gas, helium gas is classified as an energy source that involves both input and output processes [4].…”

“…Internal combustion engines are optimally designed for efficiency and performance [1]. Various zero dimension kinetic and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models have been developed to maximize the efficiency and minimize the air prolusion of these engines [2,3].…”
